Chapter Nineteen

DANNY

I HELD HER face in my hands, my eyes roving between each of hers as I tried to fight the lust coursing through me.

I could see in Nova’s eyes what she wanted, but I didn’t want to take anything from her she wasn’t really ready to give. The moment I’d looked up, with my hands still splayed out across her rounded stomach, the need in those golden orbs had slammed into me, intensifying the battle I fought almost every damn minute I spent with her by a million.

There were more reasons why I shouldn’t kiss her than I could count. I spent almost every waking minute trying to remind myself of them. But when her lips parted, and she said my name—a breathy sound filled with need—I knew there were only two things that could stop me:

A heavily armed battalion.

Or a single word of protest from Nova.

Neither materialized as I leaned in, and when I grazed her lips with mine, my body shuddered with the onslaught of feeling that spread through me. Connected by the faint touch of our mouths, my eyelids squeezed when Nova angled her head, and her lips opened for me.

Instinct took over, raw need driving my tongue into her mouth. My grip on her face tightened, and her hands moved to my back, bunching the fabric of my tee in her small fingers as a moan drifted past her lips. I pressed closer, feeling the hard press of her bump between us, evidence of the life we’d created together, and a heady rush of protectiveness span through me.

I pulled back, breathing heavily as my eyes dropped.

I didn’t know how this worked.

I didn’t want to hurt the baby. Didn’t want to hurt Nova, either.

For the first time, with a girl in my arms, I felt uncertain.

“Is she okay? Did I push too hard?” I glanced up in time to see Nova’s features liquify.

She shook her head softly. “She’s fine, Danny.”

“You sure?”

Nova bit her lip and nodded, and I found myself torn between not wanting to damage my kid and wanting to suck her mother’s lip into my mouth while I ravaged her perfect body. I frowned, barely curbing a groan when Nova’s teeth sank deeper into the delicate flesh of her lower lip, each ragged breath cresting and breaking between us like waves as my dick strained against the seam of my pants.

“Danny?” Nova murmured, and I dragged my gaze up to her eyes.

Half-lidded, lust-filled, bright golden eyes.

Fuck me.

“Yeah?” I choked.

“Last time, you kind of made me beg.”

My jaw rolled. “Finding that hard to believe.”

She nodded. “I think you were trying to be a gentleman.”

Pfft. Me? A gentleman. Couldn’t remember her being drunk that night, but maybe she was hammered after all.

“I didn’t want a gentleman then…” she said, and my heart sped up. “And that’s not what I want now.”

Fuck.

My teeth clamped together. “The baby—”

“Will be fine. I promise.”

My chest expanded, gaze flipping from her stomach to her face like a Yo-Yo.

“Danny?”

I glanced up.

“Just kiss me.
